This is what I found in my Inbox this morning! I found it important and felt the urge of sharing. There are not affiliate links implied and the promotion is not for the service but against another anomaly! It seems a war on our nerves. They will never stop until we will change something. Take a moment and read this message and think of something sensible.
First off, we would like to apologize for sending you another notice so soon after our newsletter. However, this issue came to our attention and we feel it is incredibly important that you are informed of this pending threat to your internet freedoms as soon as possible.
As many of you are aware, Namecheap has taken a stance against SOPA and related legislation. In 2012 and 2013, we donated over $100,000 to the Electronic Frontier Foundation to help ensure that the fight stays alive.
A new threat, CISPA (Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act) originally emerged in 2012. It has come to life again this week as an even bigger threat to online freedom.
As such, we are once again committing to action. We are asking for your help to raise awareness and take a stand. Take a moment to learn more about this threat and then use the buttons provided on the page to share this information with your social media contacts. In addition, you can use the coupon code CISPAalert during your next .com, .net. or .org registration or transfer and save $1 on the first year per domain while showing your support for the fight against this legislation.
Shari Steele, Executive Director, EFF states:
EFF is pleased to stand with Namecheap in voicing strong opposition to the CISPA legislation recently re-introduced in the House. We thank Namecheap users for their much-needed support and generosity. With the support of the Namecheap community, EFF can continue the fight for digital rights on behalf of all Internet users.
Namecheap will donate $0.10 to EFF.org for every Tweet, FB Share, or Coupon code used.
More about CISPA
If CISPA is passed, the US government gains the power to shut off Internet traffic and empowers the US government to ask your ISP about your online activities in the efforts to learn about possible cyber security threats and Internet attacks. Advocated under the premise of anti-terrorism legislation, this legislation is so broad that it threatens to endanger the privacy of every individual and ordinary and law abiding citizens. This act makes your private online activity now public, giving ISPs the right to share your personal information completely without your knowledge, due process, or authorization.
Quote from Namecheap’s CEO, Richard Kirkendall:
CISPA is just another re-hashed version of SOPA, which was vehemently opposed by the entire internet community. This is another attempt by congress to backdoor this anti-privacy and pro censorship legislation while everyone is sleeping. We want to sound the alarm and bring attention to this while we all can still take action.
Namecheap continues its fight against all such legislation, and we stand tall to raise the alarm against any and all legislation that promotes censorship or threatens the privacy of the individual. We will continue to call out the need for due process, bring awareness to any such threat, and donate to the cause.
