I have been subjective in choosing these movies to put on the following culinary list, but I have to confess that it wasn't very hard. There isn't much to choose from, and a search on Google is perplexing. Anyway, here are my all-time examples of what I define a cooking movie. I have to warn you that sometimes, to justify an idea, I inadvertently resorted to spoilers. I hope they're not major, so you can still enjoy separately, every movie after you read this post. In choosing the movies, I was … [Read more...]

The Wife Is the Movie With Only One Oscar Nomination
The Wife is a movie matched to finally win Glenn Close her Oscar after six nominations, in spite of the Academy's habit to rarely reward a real performance against any trend of the moment. It seems that in this role, Close did what he does best, with mimics (or the lack of them) and attitude, her character delivers what has to be delivered. I have not read Meg Wolitzer's novel, but I'm sure it doesn't matter now. [source of all pictures: imdb.com] Plot Joe and Joan Castleman are a … [Read more...]
A Fizzy Green Book Shots Two Rabbits with One Bullet
Do you know what a Green Book is? As unbelievable as it may seem, it's a "touristic guide" with all the places the colored people could lodge and have their meals in the Beautiful American South, during the segregation. In states like Arkansas, Kentucky or Georgia, it's as the Civil War never took place. This wonderful movie is just about a road trip, a tour actually, in those Southern states, with all the concerts booked in beautiful estates or exclusive theaters. Bohemian Rhapsody, Flattening the Adventure to a PG13
If by producing Bohemian Rhapsody, Brian May and Roger Taylor wanted to crown the process of canonizing Freddie Mercury started with the Tribute concert immediately after his death, they succeeded. The movie is not a bad one, but it is not a masterpiece either. An Oscar for Best Picture will only confirm that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences' vote has nothing to do with art's expression. There were worst movies awarded and nobody could do anything but talk. It was entertaining … [Read more...]
Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma – An Over Two Hours Long Featured Movie
I have finally had the opportunity to watch Alfonso Cuarón's Roma, and I was left with somehow a bitter taste. It was not because the movie is bad, far from that, but it is left unfinished, or, at least this is what I feel. I'm sure I'm not alone. The movie was exemplary acted by everyone involved. Some critics consider Roma the best movie of the decade. Which one, I wonder, 2010-2020, or 2009-2019? 2019 just started and there is time to judge for the next year. I don't subscribe to this still … [Read more...]
Under the Silver Lake – A Movie Watched First at Cannes
Under the Silver Lake is a weird movie, but it is not unwatchable. On the contrary, it is somehow very esthetic. Andrew Garfield is also very good in this type of role. When I say it's weird, think at David Lynch adapting a Bret Easton Ellis kind of weird. The difference is that David Robert Mitchell, the filmmaker, actually tries to say something. The topic is not sterile at all. [source for all pics: imdb.com] Under the Silver Lake - Plot In a world where people don't necessarily run … [Read more...]
