This is a book which never was a priority for me to read. Maybe you know that The Dark Fields is called now Limitless after the movie apparently inspired by it. What I have never understood is how one can take a good book, and believe when I tell you that The Dark Fields is a good read, make a script after it and then destroy every logic structure and make a second-hand movie. [source: goodreads] The Dark Fields on short, actually on very short When I watched Limitless in 2001, … [Read more...]
The Mountain Shadow, a Shantaram Sequel
Despite a few rough critics it encountered from some purists (especially of Indian origin), The Mountain Shadow, a sequel grandiosely written by the talented Gregory David Roberts, is as captivating as Shantaram, its predecessor. It has been published ten years later, in October 2015. I have read it with the same pleasure, because it was very catchy, almost as the first one. It seems a long read, some other nine hundred pages, but it's definitely worthy. If you loved Shantaram, you will love … [Read more...]
The Childhood of Jesus, a Book Written by J.M.Coetzee
"The Childhood of Jesus" is a very sensitive book written by John Maxwell Coetzee, an acclaimed South African writer who recently changed his location to Australia. It is his last book, or at least, it will be until September 21, 2016, when a sequel is scheduled to be published in the United Kingdom. That book's name is "The Schooldays of Jesus". The Childhood of Jesus - Plot Critics say that it has a lot of biblical references, hence the title. I consider it a fantasy utopia in a … [Read more...]
A Fine Balance
I think that Rohinton Mistry's "A Fine Balance" is a book that can't be avoided if you want to read Indian fiction. It is extraordinary well written, it is present in any Top Books list about India, or just Bombay (even if I have recently found one by the British Guardian that listed "Family Matters" on an alleged Top 10 about Bombay, Mistry's 2002 third book). I have my own preferences about books on India, or on Bombay-Mumbai, but I haven't yet read all of the acclaimed books. What can I … [Read more...]
The Circle by Dave Eggers, a Book About Unity
Dave Eggers is my new hero. I enjoy his writing more than a lot of other things, lately, more than any Dan Brown, for sample. I'm going to speak my mind about Inferno, last Brown's ultra best selling novel, in a future post on this category. Here, I'm gonna praise Mr. Eggers, for his recent The Circle. I have started his 2012 published novel, A Hologram for the King, which determined me to post immediately. Actually I have finished it in the same day, so I have only one word to say about, it: … [Read more...]
Flash! Category on this Blog
Today was the premiere of a new category on my blog named "FLASH", hoping to be more closed to the outside events. It will present in short what I discover, and even if it will not be ultimate news, the facts will be recent. Posts will have of course, pictures, videos, or block quotes, and will be shorter than my usual minimum five hundred words, even if this is vague, because I think I'm coming closer to one thousand per post :). Anyway, what I want to enhance is that my posts will be daily or … [Read more...]
