Boyhood is a 2014 American movie written and directed by Richard Linklater, of Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight fame. I have hurried to include it in my Oscars reviews this year, because it is nominated for Best Picture, and for another three important categories, Best Original Screenplay (Richard Linklater), Best Supporting Actor (Ethan Hawke) and Best Supporting Actress (Patricia Arquette). This movie is very special because it was filmed with the same actors on a period of … [Read more...]
Gone Girl
Gone Girl is unfortunately far from being one of the best movies directed by David Fincher. Despite its very good rate on imdb, 8.3 with pushed this mediocre movie to an undeserved 128 place in Top 250 of Best Movies of all times, it is not a good movie. I know it's a matter of tastes, but let's put it near other psychological thrillers directed by Fincher, like Fight Club, or Zodiac. As a matter of fact I have never been mad over his movies, I consider him "dark", too dark for my taste. I have … [Read more...]
Oscars Nominations 2015
I'm not doing like last year, when I published innumerable posts on nominees and awards, Golden Globe, SAG, Independent Films, etc. Just the Golden Globes and the Oscars, just to be more practical, especially that I don't want to comment too much, since I haven't watched yet all the movies. Anyway, among the actors, I have to salute a few new names nominated this year for the Oscars. Unfortunately, no Leo this year. I have a feeling that next year he will won the Best Actor for sure, with one … [Read more...]
Oscar Winners 2014
I took again the list from CNN's site, I pasted here from my post with the nominations, because it is layered better than the one they have published now. I have been a little bit disappointed by the final result, and I don't know why, because I haven't seen the whole movie, and you know that if you have read my previous post. Except Best Picture, this year's Oscars winners are perfectly fine, almost predictable. The choosing of Best Supporting Actor has been the hardest, I think, but Jared Leto … [Read more...]
Short Personal Review Before the Oscars 2014
I have very recently watched "Lee Daniel’s The Butler" and I have been impressed of another one not being nominated for this year’s Best Movie. I mean, I couldn’t bring myself to pass the critical first twenty minutes of "12 Years a Slave", so I do not really understand the British fuss, except that the lead actor is British. It received the Golden Globe for Drama and maybe I have been wrong in my haste. I want to say that this year, the only movie close to an Oscar is "The Wolf of Wall … [Read more...]
Oscars: Nominations 2014
I have waited with publishing the 86'th Academy Awards Nominations a week after the official announcement, because other movie or movie related ceremonies already happened, so they have their place on this blog, some of them in premiere. Actually, I wanted to wait one other week, because it's no hurry. The ceremony will take place Sunday, March 2'nd, just one day after Film Independent Spirit Awards and Golden Rapsberry Awards, known better as "Razzies". Best picture "12 Years a … [Read more...]
