On February 27 ‘th, we shall enjoy the Oscars, the most prestigious Award Ceremony in the world of movies and cinema. As you may already know, for a movie to be eligible for consideration, “must be feature length over 40 minutes, publicly exhibited by means of 35mm or 70mm film, or in a 24- or 48-frame progressive scan Digital Cinema format with a minimum projector resolution of 2048 by 1080 pixels, for paid admission in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County, for a qualifying run of at least seven consecutive days, advertised and exploited during their Los Angeles County qualifying run in a manner considered normal and customary to the industry.” Also, “films that, in any version, receive their first public exhibition or distribution in any manner other than as a theatrical motion picture release will not be eligible for Academy Awards in any category. (This includes broadcast and cable television as well as home video marketing and Internet transmission.) However, ten minutes or ten percent of the running time of a film, whichever is shorter, is allowed to be shown in a nontheatrical medium prior to the film’s theatrical release.” That made all the other Awards to be less important, the Globes, most of all. Even if some of the awards are a disappointment sometimes, all it’s causes are subjective. For Oscars Awards, the votes are casting for every category by the specialists themselves, for acting, actors, for producing producers, fore make-up, make-up artists and so on. Almost all the actors are members. I thought normal at a time, that to receive a membership invitation, should have been the result of some merit from the recipient’s part. Not with everybody, I don’t know why people without any Oscar nomination or award, are Academy members.
Sunday, January 30 ‘th, the SAG Awards ceremony took place. This is the Oscar prelude, from the Screen Actors Guild. The talent was rewarded again, and because they don’t have a producing award, instead of the movie, they awarded the cast. Nice, very nice, which reminds me to predict a few future Oscar winners. Absolutely, the Oscar for an actor in the leading role will be handed to Colin Firth and the one for an actor in a supporting role will be handed to Batman. Both a little bit freaky, both roles acted with unchallenged talent. For the women equivalents this year, I’m truly disappointed. Nothing. Portman was almost alone, with a little bit of challenge from the young revelation, Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone). So Natalie Portman, who will retreat for a while, to give birth apparently, will retreat with the golden statuette. More than that, Annette Bening wasn’t that good, Nicole Kidman acted as usual, and the young revelation Lawrence, is too young. For the supporting role, apparently the category will be challenged between Melissa Leo and another young blood, Hailee Steinfeld (in the Cohen’s version of True Grit). I’m bringing myself very hard to see a Cohen movie, unless it’s a comedy. A Cohen movie is better that an Aronofsky’s one, but think No Country For Old Men, or Fargo. It is too hyper. Now, the Cohen brothers and Darren Aronofsky are competing for more than one award, and all three will leave lending their name to some golden statues.
Best Picture will be one of these three movies with the posters below, with a slightly better chance for the The King’s Speech.

Very great movies, both deserving, are The Social Network and Inception. But… but I’m afraid there are few at Hollywood who understand what’s happening in Inception, so the battle will be between Scott Rudin and the British team of producers.

Bad luck for Jesse Eisenberg! Maybe just the movie will win, or the director, David Fincher? Who knows…
