Still don’t have the habit to create “bullet posts”, but I’ll change a little my former opinions. I have already mentioned that nothing is UN-changeable, if the reason is justified. I have read a lot, lately, and I think it’s time to take some new steps.
- I have installed a few new plugins, after a period of testing somehow others, and I have re-thought the structure of this blog.
- Contacted a few acquaintances and learned a lot about blog and blog-post promoting.
- Changed a little bit my “monetization” plans. There are a lot of methods to make money with your blurbs, even the retards may use them, it’s just a matter of conscience after all. It’s easy to sell crap, it’s easier to sell nonexistent “goods”, but if you want credibility, you have to be honest. A lot of marketeers do not respect the potential clients. Really good advice is hard to find, if you read everything you lay your eyes on, shortly after, you may be able to discern yourself what works and what is of no use.
- Few things are true. Good content, SEO and traffic. All of them are inter-related, as it is normal, all of them are the three necessary pillars of a quality blog. Even if you’re using your site to publish your diary, to be found by the public you crave for, you need to be literate. Of course, this is the first given advice in the “Dummy” series, WordPress for Dummies, or Blogging for Dummies, and so on. It isn’t quite a priority for a Twitter user, I’ve seen, but to use a blog post with around five hundred words, you need to spell correctly, no matter the language.
- By good content I mean something interesting, more or less original, or at least useful. Seems cheap what I say, but as far as I am concerned, I’d like to see something enlightening me on the web, instead of some flashy brainwashing. Even a good advertisement is better when keeps some logic. If you’re publishing your own creations, as an artist, this becomes a matter of taste, I’m not judging this. For whatever you publish, you need a good design, that’s for sure.
- SEO, Search Engine Optimization is a key for anyone to be found. I’m not a licensed SEO specialist, I’m learning with the wave, and I’m continually testing, as the specialists do. I use already optimized platforms, they were already invented, they’re legal and they’re good. Of course, there are also payed services, where you pay a company, usually a guy, to re-arrange the mess “inside” your good for nothing “free” design. Too much color, too hard to read, too complicated, code, code, and more code you don’t understand. You deserve to stay in the five million range at Alexa.
- And here we come to the matter of traffic. By the way, Alexa seems to be the most accurate ranking measure for existing sites. All the rest is just local, or too elitist (Technorati for sample). Even Google Page Rank seems a little bit too fishy. It gratuitously helps a blogspot site with no remarkable traffic to show a PR 3, when a site like ProBlogger.net, with over two hundred thousand visits per day is PR 4. Only the e-stores of Amazon fame have a higher PR. Alexa shows a closer image of your presence on the internet. It is a measure of the number of visitors you have per day, per month, per three months, and of linking. The linking sites help you to range better on Google (which is the most important of all). The visitors are the public, your fans or enemies who read what you have to say, who buy what you sell and who review what they bought from you.
- I’m not talking here of methods to increase your traffic. Good content and good SEO are two, more than enough meanings for a good traffic creation.
- A good ranking on Alexa, is determined by visitors. The revenue, the adsense revenue, as a matter of fact, the price you may charge per square centimeter of advertising, is determined by the number of pageviews, which is higher than the visitors number. To have a good site ranking on Alexa, you need a good structure. A blog structure. You need WordPress, you need Genesis, you need your own host. After that, you can think of making money with your good content. Genesis takes care of your SEO. I can take care of it as well, if you’re choosing me to help.
Thanks to Kristy Hines and Gabriella Sannino for the good advice they gave me these days, :), both of them have to be unavoidable examples for any start up blogger.
Here you have something funny, after all this pseudo-technical “bullets”, :), in the “spirit” of this site. They stuffed the videos with 15 seconds of advertising, I think that’s a small price for “borowing” it.
