Mike Nichols, born on November 6, 1931, in Berlin, Germany, with the name Mikhail Igor Peschkowsky, was the first cinema director to make one million dollars after one movie, in 1967 for The Graduate, when his salary with the royalties combined to one million. He made another million just from the salary, in 1970, for directing Catch-22. He died of heart attack, two days ago, being eighty-six years old. He was married four times, and he considered his last spouse, the famous ABC Diane Sawyer, the love of his life.

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), The Graduate (1967), Teach Me! (1968), Catch-22 (1970), Carnal Knowledge (1971), The Day of the Dolphin (1973), The Fortune (1975), Gilda Live (1980), Silkwood (1983), Heartburn (1986), , Biloxi Blues (1988), Working Girl (1988), Postcards from the Edge (1990), Regarding Henry (1991), Wolf (1994), The Birdcage (1996), Primary Colors (1998), What Planet Are You From? (2000), Closer (2004) and Charlie Wilson’s War (2007) are all his important directed movies. They were huge successes and he was highly admired. If you watched some of these movies, you will notice that he has directed all the greatest actors in Hollywood history, at least from one moment to another.
He was also an actor who appeared at the inaugurating gala for President Jimmy Carter with his comedy partner of that time, Elaine May. They were called, “Nichols and May”. I hope you have seen most of his movies, and you agree that he wasn’t mediocre at all. It seemed he had a weakness for the music of Simon and Garfunkel. Greatness comes hand in hand between its peers.
God bless you, Mr. Nichols!
