Mad Max: Fury Road is a B movie with a lot of glue to the public. It made the imdb Top 250, it appeared on the nominations list for the Oscars this year. That is not a problem, if some committee wants to brainwash the population, it nominates such a movie for Best Picture, for Golden Globes, for whatever. It’s insane, I know. This movie has a legacy, but the makers never dreamed to arrive so far. It is part of a franchise which was Mel Gibson‘s trampoline to a star status.
I actually wanted to write about other things instead of the Best Picture’s list. I love movies, but like the year before, no wonders are happening yet. Birdman won because it was the best movie in a sea of near mediocre productions. Oh, but this year has an exception which is The Revenant, and I have already reviewed it. Otherwise, I don’t know what Brooklyn, Mad Max, The Big Short and The Martian are doing on the Best Picture nominees list. The only remarkable movies this year, were The Revenant, Bridge of Spies, Spotlight, Room, The Danish Girl, Carol, Trumbo, and last but not the least, that Swedish comedy with the long title which is nominated only for make-up. Oh, unfortunately I haven’t have the opportunity to watch any of the Foreign Film nominees, I have a feeling they have some surprises in stock.

The future can’t look like this. Somehow, the present is that insane. It is the second most nominated for Oscars, after The Revenant, of course. It is about a captured wild Max, about his transformation in Baine the Bloodbag, the coalition with Furiosa who kidnapped the breeding stock of the tyrant Imortan, and a continuous road trip through the desert (filmed partly in Namibia, partly in Australia). Nice imagery, nice effects, and a total lack of logic in everything. They are all mutants, or at least part of them, this is far from a normal fantasy, and is a very weak steampunk science fiction.

Indeed, can you tell me what’s the sense of the “policeman” Max in this context? Otherwise it seems nice acted by the main characters. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron can’t do wrong now. At least Charlize is a multiple Academy Awards nominee and Best Actress winner, but Tom Hardy is a revelation. He is better and better with every movie. I have still to watch Legend, to be even more sure than I am now.

The difference from the other Mad Maxes is that now they are more adapted to modern times. Besides steampunk and lack of logic, some sexiness is an important add. Miller added some real life models and Lenny Kravitz’s daughter who “is very hot right now”, like Hansel (this is from Zoolander‘s Mugatu)

Mad Max Fury Road – The Cast
The movie is directed by George Miller, the original director from Mel Gibson’s debut. It is written by George Miller, Brendan McCarthy, and Nick Lathouris. It stars Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky, Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa, Nicholas Hoult as Nux, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe, Josh Helman as Slit, Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus, Zoë Kravitz as Toast the Knowing, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as The Splendid Angharad, Riley Keough as Capable, Abbey Lee as The Dag, Courtney Eaton as Cheedo the Fragile, and others with equally ridiculous names.
According to this honest trailer, Mad Max Fury Road is the best from all the trashy other franchises’ sequels(Jurassic World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Terminator Genisys, etc…). If you don’t believe me, you can watch it yourself.
