Looking through the Oscars Best Picture nominations this year, I'm surprised to notice that I watched almost all the mentioned movies. As for the ones I haven't watched yet, I profoundly feel that I'll never do. It happened with Twelve Years a Slave, even when I knew it will win. It was one of those slipped Infos the night before the ceremony, which wasn't a coincidence and it wasn't a good movie either. I shall not watch Belfast, CODA, and West Side Story because I don't resonate with any of … [Read more...]
Oscars 2021 – The 93rd Annual Academy Awards – Nominees and Winners
The Oscars 2021 were better than others. I always thought that Oscars have to be awarded to movies close to spectacular, and to outstanding performances or deeds. This rarely happens, and unfortunately, that won't happen again. Thus I greatly appreciate the persons involved, they exert a great effort from the project's beginning to its end, even if the result is not the best movie ever. If the result is trash, it means they didn't work enough, and they aren't worth mentioning. They wouldn't be … [Read more...]
All-White HFPA Overlooked Black Actors and Black-led Projects. Really?
During the whole week preceding the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony, the HFPA's "lack of diversity" within its membership was fiercely exposed. This smearing campaign started after Feb. 21, 2021, L.A. Times article by Josh Rottenberg and Stacy Perman, achieved its goals in full. In their opening coast-to-coast "monologues", Tina Fey and Amy Poehler both addressed this controversy: "The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is made up of around ninety international non-black journalists" … [Read more...]
Palm Springs 2020 Should Win the 78th Golden Globe Awards
Palm Springs is a directorial debut for Max Barbakow, otherwise a very fine screenwriter. It is flawless. Unfortunately regarding the Golden Globe nominations, it is listed just for the Best motion picture, musical or comedy, and for Best Actor in a motion picture, musical or comedy for the SNL alumni, Andy Samberg. This is a fantasy-comedy-mystery-romance with a witty screenplay and out of the ordinary. I don't want any spoiler here in my short sort of review, with my deepest regrets, because … [Read more...]
The Golden Globes 2021 Awards Will Operate as a Hybrid
Being hosted for the 4th time by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the Golden Globes 2021 Awards will take place both directly and remotely. Fey will be present in New York, and Poehler in Los Angeles. Presenters will introduce the awards from both locations, in person, and the winners will appear virtually. Presenters include Joaquin Phoenix, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Kristen Wiig. Interesting. The winners will make virtual speeches from wherever they are at the time of the ceremony. … [Read more...]
My Own 92nd Academy Awards Predictions, Now, in 2020!
There are a few more hours to the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony in 2020, so here, I’m going to present my certain predictions. It was a good year in the cinema and till now, there are not any contradictions and misdeeds. More than that, a South Korean movie is nominated for Best Picture. Parasite, directed by Bong Joon Ho, offers something new, something fresh, with all its soft horror-ish elements. Theoretically one can have real difficulties in picking the winner in every category. With … [Read more...]
