The Golden Raspberry Awards - or Razzies - were founded in 1981 by the American publicist, John J.B. Wilson, as a joke on the night of the Academy Awards. Friends were invited to give random film awards and tales of the "bad nominations" were picked up by the Los Angeles Daily News with the headline: "Take These Envelopes, Please". Wilson formalized the events, holding ballots, and issuing trophies - shaped like a golden raspberry - and they are now announced on the eve of the Oscars, with a lot … [Read more...]
The Film Independent Spirit Awards 2014
Because I decided a few months ago to group all my awards posts in a separate category, I consider normal to feature The Film Independent Spirit Awards too. They started in 1984 as "Findies" (Friends of Independents) by Jeanne Lucas and Anne Kimmel, President of IFP/West (now Film Independent) to thank individuals and organizations for their support of independent filmmakers. The awards were first voted on by a nominating committee. In 1986, "Findies" is renamed Film Independent Spirit Awards, … [Read more...]
Oscar Winners 2014
I took again the list from CNN's site, I pasted here from my post with the nominations, because it is layered better than the one they have published now. I have been a little bit disappointed by the final result, and I don't know why, because I haven't seen the whole movie, and you know that if you have read my previous post. Except Best Picture, this year's Oscars winners are perfectly fine, almost predictable. The choosing of Best Supporting Actor has been the hardest, I think, but Jared Leto … [Read more...]
Short Personal Review Before the Oscars 2014
I have very recently watched "Lee Daniel’s The Butler" and I have been impressed of another one not being nominated for this year’s Best Movie. I mean, I couldn’t bring myself to pass the critical first twenty minutes of "12 Years a Slave", so I do not really understand the British fuss, except that the lead actor is British. It received the Golden Globe for Drama and maybe I have been wrong in my haste. I want to say that this year, the only movie close to an Oscar is "The Wolf of Wall … [Read more...]
BAFTA 2014 Awards – The Winners
Very predictable winners, at least at the major categories, and the British ones, of course. As the original Academy of whom BAFTA is just a copycat, the winners in each category is voted by their fellow peers, actors by actors, writers by writers and directors by directors, you understand very well, I hope, what I mean. I'm really sorry for not expressing my predictions a little bit earlier, but major work has intervened and I'm really happy to even be in time with this post. The whole list of … [Read more...]
BAFTA 2014: Nominees, a List
This year BAFTA Nominees' list, comes from LA Times. Usually, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards Ceremony, takes place before the Oscars, this year, it will be on Sunday, February 16'th. They have four categories outstanding the fact that this is a British thing, not American, otherwise it would have been a poor copycat of the Oscars. So, not much imagination here, as well. I have watched a few of the movies en vogue, and I sadly confess that I'm not impressed at all. But I … [Read more...]
