Cannes 2013 Grand Jury

Today, The Great Gatsby, Baz Luhrmann's adaptation based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, will open the sixty sixth film festival of Cannes. In an interview, Leonardo DiCaprio, who stars in the movie, said: "Every time I go to Cannes, it feels like I'm entering the helicopter scene in La Dolce Vita. It's an insane experience. The entire town is turned into a red carpet. Every hotel is a premiere. But at the same time, it is the mecca for the world to celebrate film-making and bold … [Read more...]

Oscars – No Surprises

Argo Producers: George Clooney, Grant Heslow and Ben Affleck

You already know the Awards, nothing new today. I just want to say it was not a surprise for Best Directing going to Ang Lee, artistically speaking it was as an arrangement for all that to happen. If Argo or Django Unchained were nominated, one of these two would have received the vote. A nice ceremony was what everybody expected and the live performances were up to our hopes. Considering the numbers and the procedures, the business was good as well, all investors had much more than they spent. … [Read more...]

Who Deserves to Win?

Quentin Tarantino in Django Unchained

With this essay post I have separated a new sub category on this blog, the Awards, which will be as you already guess, the Motion Pictures specialized talk. Everything I know related to Oscars, Globes, Emmy, SAG, and such, will be part from this new sub category. Tonight, the Oscars ceremony will take place and I feel compelled to say a few words about it. I don't feel there were many mistakes this year. Ben Affleck and Quentin Tarantino think they were robbed by Best Director nominations, … [Read more...]

Nominees for the 85th Academy Awards

February 5, 2013 By Daniel Mihai Popescu 2 Comments

Christoph Waltz & Jamie Foxx - Django Unchained

This is the list from the prestigious site of The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences, the official one, which is less glamorous as is all business. The nominees have still a lot of work to pimp themselves between them, because often, the Oscars were full of surprises. I present here the complete version, out of respect for all people involved. They deserve our consideration for their tireless efforts to fulfill everybody's expectations. Actor in a Leading Role Bradley … [Read more...]

SAG Awards Winners

Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and director Tom Hooper

All the following pics are from The Guardian! The comments are mine, now when I've seen a lot of the nominated movies. I haven't seen Argo, yet, but I'll review it separately, if it will be that astonishing. Anyway, it seems that the cast of Argo was awarded. The critics say it's a strong sign for Oscars, which might be true for some of the awards, precisely four, The Best Actors and The Best Supporting Actors, both genders, since they are voting again, plus "actress" Beyonce, the Presidential … [Read more...]

Busy Philipps, the SAG Awards Social Media Ambassador

The Screen Actors Guild Awards, made its debut in 1995, and has become one of the film industry’s most prized honors. The only televised awards shows to exclusively honor performers, it presents thirteen awards for acting in film and television in a fast moving two hour show which airs live on TNT and TBS. The awards focus on both individual performances as well as on the work of the entire ensemble of a drama series and comedy series, and the cast of a motion picture. These honors are … [Read more...]
