Team America: World Police is a metaphor expressed as a parody. It shows a high sense of humor and the most rare of all senses, the sense of ridicule. There aren't many people gifted with that. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, two of the best comic creators alive, are known by you from South Park. There's another quirk with South Park. You like it or you hate it. I think that in between can sneak the guys who don't get it (like the ones who don't get Twitter, an army, actually). This is humor, … [Read more...]
A Night at the Roxbury
I finally did it! I'm going to present you one of the best comedies of all times, one of my favorites anyway, A Night at the Roxbury, as I already said in a previous post. You know my SNL addiction, I suppose, and not only that, but I have to say that Will Ferrell is one of the greatest comedians alive. He gained his fame by changing Saturday Night Live's face for ever. He is just prolific. This movie has been done after they have a tremendous success with "The Roxbury Guys" SNL recurring … [Read more...]
The Family
The Family is a dark action comedy directed by the French famous Luc Besson. Besson is lately more a producer than a director, but we can always remember him for Subway, Le Grand Bleu, Nikita, Léon: The Professional, or The Fifth Element. If Quentin Tarantino became of originally reference across movie genres, Luc Besson is highly original before Tarantino. His movies and ideas were adapted in Hollywood for the American public taste. [source] The Family, because of Besson, is considered … [Read more...]
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
"Life made him tough. Love made him strong. Music made him hard." “Walk Hard” is a hit comedy, one of my favorites so far. I thought of this post for more than six months, but always appeared something else in the way, and I needed to do more research. It is complex, and if it seems that the structure is based on mocking “Walk the Line”, it is an original movie, with original songs, which pays tribute to Johnny Cash, punk rock, the Beatles, The Doors, Bob Dylan, and many more. John C. … [Read more...]
Mental – Hail to Australians!
Neglecting Australians as movie producers is not good at all. There is a bunch of native Australians actors who are already famous, and I bet not many knows that they are actually Aussies. What is good and what is wrong with them doesn't matter. What matters is that they're more than talented, they make Australians to be proud without too much fuss. Let's take this amazingly wonderful comedy, as quirky as it is, and say that as far as I\m concerned, it's one of the best comedies I've seen … [Read more...]
Pineapple Express
In 2008 I was in some place where I used to be so busy every day, that I couldn't watch too many movies at once. This one, Pineapple Express slipped from the bundle, mostly that I was a fan of nobody from the movie at the time, and thinking that this is the team who brought Superbad to be a "hit" (great words, too great) was not an advantage at all. So, I considered Superbad a bad joke. I like comedies, I always liked them. Anyway, I wasn't a fan of Seth Rogen either, and I profoundly disliked … [Read more...]
