Winners of the Golden Globes 2016 – The List

January 12, 2016 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

Finally, the (73rd) Golden Globe 2016 Awards, Winners List. Only the winners are here. Because the Golden Globes are produced by Dick Clark Productions in association with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, there must be a little bit more objectivity in how the awards are being distributed. You have the nominees list here, so I'm not going to fill the spaces again, with everybody. I like it a lot that one of the most brilliant comedians in Great Britain was chosen yet again to host the … [Read more...]

Barely Lethal

Barely Lethal - Hailee Steinfeld, Samuel L. Jackson

Sometimes one needs a less pretentious movie to lift its mood up. Barely Lethal is one of them. Watching it I felt amused and refreshed. It happens maybe because I like how Hailee Steinfeld grows up by being better and better every day. Since True Grit which brought her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress at 14, she kept intact her glowing. This movie is an independent action comedy, where even Samuel L. Jackson is less tiring as usual. I'll come back to him later. I am sorry to … [Read more...]

Tom Hardy

These two short lists have been published by imdb.com on December 1st, 2015. I have waited for the whole Top 100, to present it here as I did before. I have waited and waited, and they haven't released the STARmeter Top 100 for the precedent year, so you have here just the Top 10. It is incredible as you see that some breakthrough stars are part of it as well. The IMDb Top 10 Stars of 2015 1. Tom Hardy [source] This English actor emerged as a real old time star. With five movies … [Read more...]

Intermission – An Irish Dark Comedy

December 19, 2015 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

Intermission - poster

This absolutely amazing Irish dark comedy named Intermission, is one of the most refreshing movies I've watched lately. It looks as an Irish Trainspotting mixed with Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. It is tough, it is insane, and it is watchable. I hardly believe that I'm going to review two John Crowley movies almost in a row, but I have been deeply impressed by this one, which is also his debut. It's about a few characters' personal stories which mixed and interlaced in a very verbal … [Read more...]

Closed Circuit

Closed Circuit - Eric Bana, Rebecca Hall

I have recently watched Closed Circuit and I was thrilled of how good it was made for a movie with such a delicate subject. After Paris events, one can be a little bit more than a little biased toward a public bombing where 120 people were killed, a fictive event, of course, but not at all improbable. It happens in London, where usually only IRA was putting the bombs. Now, in this case, some Turkish guy was arrested. His wife and kid have been taken in custody as well. Interesting, isn't it? … [Read more...]
