I finally did it! I'm going to present you one of the best comedies of all times, one of my favorites anyway, A Night at the Roxbury, as I already said in a previous post. You know my SNL addiction, I suppose, and not only that, but I have to say that Will Ferrell is one of the greatest comedians alive. He gained his fame by changing Saturday Night Live's face for ever. He is just prolific. This movie has been done after they have a tremendous success with "The Roxbury Guys" SNL recurring … [Read more...]
Movies
Movies of all kind from an artistic point of view, reviews or opinions.
Dom Hemingway
The movie tries to remind the viewer of some absolutely brilliant combination between Quentin Tarantino's witty speech and Guy Richie's characters; cockney flavor. It is not. I have been extremely disappointed. It has a good part though, who came almost unexpected: the debut of a former model from Romania, Madalina Diana Ghenea. Not a big role, but representative. So, that was the best part of this very advertised joke of a film. Jude Law, is a good actor who sometimes go further in … [Read more...]
Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon
Barry Lyndon is a 8.1 imdb rated movie, written, produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. It has been released in 1975, and was based on the novel "The Luck of Barry Lyndon" written in 1844 by William Makepeace Thackeray, the author of the famous "Vanity Fair". It made the top 250 best of all times movies on the same imdb, which is great, considering even very low quality consumerist movies like The Avengers are figured on that list. Before telling more about it, I think that Barry Lyndon is … [Read more...]
Once Upon a Time in America
With this movie, I initially wanted to start a new sub-category on "The Motion Picture", and I saw that its description already fitted other four movies as well. I have considered for years now, Once Upon a Time in America my favorite movie of all times. I'm not sure it still stays like that. It is a beautiful story, different from The Hoods, the book which was the inspiration. Harry Grey, (Herschel Goldberg), the book's author, is "Noodle", the main character in the movie, played by De … [Read more...]
The Believer
The Believer is a 2001 Ryan Gosling drama movie, directed and written by Henry Bean. It is said and strongly believed that this is the role launching Gosling's career at Hollywood. He was and is better than just a good looking guy amongst other thousands. He is very talented, no matter what lists were made after his apparition in The Notebook. [source] You already know that I do not reveal the plot of the movie I'm reviewing even if it's already a classic. I'd like that my readers to be … [Read more...]
Cannes 2014 – The Awards
Jane Campion, the Jury President, said she was afraid she'll need to go to the toilet during Winter Sleep screening, being a film so long, three hours sixteen minutes, but watching it, she said that she'll stay two hours more. Along with the other members, she has been impressed by the poetry, the political complex situation and the female characters. I haven't watched the movie, but I can't wait. It'll be launched in August. [source] I know, I've started this post with the middle, or … [Read more...]
