The Believer

July 5, 2014 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

The Believer - Ryan Gosling, Summer Phoenix

The Believer is a 2001 Ryan Gosling drama movie, directed and written by Henry Bean. It is said and strongly believed that this is the role launching Gosling's career at Hollywood. He was and is better than just a good looking guy amongst other thousands. He is very talented, no matter what lists were made after his apparition in The Notebook. [source] You already know that I do not reveal the plot of the movie I'm reviewing even if it's already a classic. I'd like that my readers to be … [Read more...]

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Confessions of a Shopaholic - poster

This is a "romantic comedy" released in 2009 under Jerry Bruckheimer's production company. It is under-rated (just a poor 5.6 on imdb), as almost all comedies. As a comedy it is one of the most funny things I saw in the genre, meaning the "romantic" genre, otherwise in this matter, I already have my opinions. You have already enjoyed my best 20 comedies list. [source] [all the other pictures as well, are credited to the same source] It's hard to imagine a film rated more than 6 out of … [Read more...]

Top 100 Actors in 2012

Tom Hardy

This is not my list, it is the imdb list, called STARmeter, which is a poll using proprietary algorithms that take into account several measures of popularity for people, titles and companies. The primary measure is who and what people are looking at on the IMDb.com and IMDbPro websites. This can't be rigged because rankings are based on a cumulative total of more than 3 billion pageviews per month. Imdb has designed the ranking algorithm so that the actions of one user (or small group of users) … [Read more...]

Sucker Punch, a Movie for Zombies

Sucker Punch - the steampunkish crap

Sucker Punch is a 2011 movie, directed by the sickening mind of Zack Snyder, the creator of Cruel and Unusual Films, a production company hatched together with his lovely wife, Deborah. It is considered on imdb, an action, comedy, thriller. It's rated 6.1, which is way too much. The first song, voice performed by young Emily Browning herself, looks like a cover over Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams", only it's a cover of cover after Marylin Manson, with some really cruel addiction. Last part wasn't in … [Read more...]

Show Me Love

Show Me Love - Alexandra Dahlström, Rebecka Liljeberg

A refreshing Swedish film from 1998, an European answer to American Pie... It was brilliant. This will be a short post about a teen movie. They were kids, they were disoriented, they were crazy but that was normal at their age. It's not normal to think it's funny to mug a retired person, but it was just a figure, a stylish one, nothing more. [source - this one and the rest of the pics in this post] It is a 7.7 imdb rated movie. It won some awards, especially in Europe: Best Foreign … [Read more...]

RocknRolla

March 12, 2012 By Daniel Mihai Popescu 2 Comments

This is the title of one of the good movies released in 2008, the best year of the millennium in cinema. Being a Guy Ritchie movie, maybe its place is in The Shadows, but there is all the time in the world to put him in one or two articles in that "under the stream" category. Not little was my awe that something is too fishy with Mr. Ritchie. There is a pattern in his art, something captivating and paralyzing at the same time. No doubt, he knows well to use symbols. I have seen this movie … [Read more...]
