Going in Style is so incredibly weak and predictable at the same time, that one can think it's just a mockery. I have started from the image below, which doesn't have a connection with this movie, and replaced Liam Neeson with Alan Arkin. What do we have then? A sort of a variation of a sort of a crime comedy with septuagenarians, like Stand Up Guys, where only Arkin is the common piece, and Al Pacino and Christopher Walken are replaced with Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. All of them have … [Read more...]
The Fate of the Furious – A Brain-Numbing Action Flick 136′ Long
I don't think I have ever watched a super production more stupid and senseless than The Fate of the Furious. It is full of stars and it's so empty, so illogical and so futile, it's incoherent and it's witless. Folks! It's terrible; you know my allergies to junk like The Avengers (which I have labelled trash at least once), but believe me; The Avengers franchise is a masterpiece near this junk. IT 2016 – A Horror/Thriller with Cyberspace Pretensions
IT 2016 (I know, I have to spell it "I.T. made in 2016", to not be mistaken with 1990 It, a television miniseries) is a B thriller directed by John Moore and written mostly by the obscure Dan Kay, who seems specialized in the low rated niche of horrors. One of those is Pay the Ghost (2015), one of Nicolas Cage's $1 for the dozen movies. Additional dialogues were written by William Wisher Jr., who's most impressive contribution to date was something he added to 1984 The Terminator. It is an … [Read more...]
The General – A Brilliant Irish Movie
The General is another relevant Irish movie, like Intermission (2003), or The Guard (2011), to mention only two others. As you have already guessed, it's not about the 1928 Buster Keaton & Clyde Bruckman production, a movie with the same title. It was released in 1998 as well, like Great Expectations and a whole more wonderful productions from the same year. It is funny even though I won't include it in my "Comedy" category. It's more like a very specific Irish crime movie with sparks of … [Read more...]
Dom Hemingway
The movie tries to remind the viewer of some absolutely brilliant combination between Quentin Tarantino's witty speech and Guy Richie's characters; cockney flavor. It is not. I have been extremely disappointed. It has a good part though, who came almost unexpected: the debut of a former model from Romania, Madalina Diana Ghenea. Not a big role, but representative. So, that was the best part of this very advertised joke of a film. Jude Law, is a good actor who sometimes go further in … [Read more...]
Sad stories from the last century
I wanted to write about the Latvian documentary called The Soviet Story, inspired by a magazine article I read a few weeks ago. Of course I have searched for the movie and seen it. The critical view I read, was not at all reasonable, on the contrary, speculations were made that the film could be an exaggeration of the truth. I remember having met a lot of opinions in a certain matter discussed in the documentary, and I was intrigued by the lack of data. In time, I completely forgot. It was about … [Read more...]
