I have very recently watched "Lee Daniel’s The Butler" and I have been impressed of another one not being nominated for this year’s Best Movie. I mean, I couldn’t bring myself to pass the critical first twenty minutes of "12 Years a Slave", so I do not really understand the British fuss, except that the lead actor is British. It received the Golden Globe for Drama and maybe I have been wrong in my haste. I want to say that this year, the only movie close to an Oscar is "The Wolf of Wall … [Read more...]
Winners of the 2014 Golden Globes Awards
This year I haven't done two posts with the Golden Globes, but one, which has the nominees and the winners all together. If it's too late, you may consider this post just for the record, you can find this certain list, easier here than wherever else. From the multitude of lists on the internet, I have chosen the one published by CNN. The post is indeed, just information, no comments. All pictures are from BBC. Best motion picture, drama • "12 Years a Slave" -- WINNER • "Captain … [Read more...]
Who Deserves to Win?
With this essay post I have separated a new sub category on this blog, the Awards, which will be as you already guess, the Motion Pictures specialized talk. Everything I know related to Oscars, Globes, Emmy, SAG, and such, will be part from this new sub category. Tonight, the Oscars ceremony will take place and I feel compelled to say a few words about it. I don't feel there were many mistakes this year. Ben Affleck and Quentin Tarantino think they were robbed by Best Director nominations, … [Read more...]
Silver Linings Playbook
Every Oscar season has to have a movie which is non-political, even a comedy or a drama "unrelated with the current events". I'm only joking, considering that Kathryn Bigellow's movie The Hurt Locker won Best Picture almost unrelated with the artistic views of the moment. Anyway, this year, her Zero Dark Thirty is way better and the critics say it's not standing a chance. Silver Linings Playbook is nominated for Best Picture with great chances to win if it wouldn't be for Argo. I used to be … [Read more...]
SAG Awards Winners
All the following pics are from The Guardian! The comments are mine, now when I've seen a lot of the nominated movies. I haven't seen Argo, yet, but I'll review it separately, if it will be that astonishing. Anyway, it seems that the cast of Argo was awarded. The critics say it's a strong sign for Oscars, which might be true for some of the awards, precisely four, The Best Actors and The Best Supporting Actors, both genders, since they are voting again, plus "actress" Beyonce, the Presidential … [Read more...]
Happy Hunger Games!
I'm going to talk of a movie based on a horrifyingly violent book marketed to small children. I know that Hollywood's greed is as great as their penchant for presenting graphic violence, horror, and gore to the smallest and most vulnerable people who have no filters to protect themselves. It is a horror, it is morally insane. I have a feeling that this time is serious. They crossed all their limits. The movie is masterly crafted to involve even you, the modern spectator in a futuristic worse … [Read more...]
