Because I decided a few months ago to group all my awards posts in a separate category, I consider normal to feature The Film Independent Spirit Awards too. They started in 1984 as "Findies" (Friends of Independents) by Jeanne Lucas and Anne Kimmel, President of IFP/West (now Film Independent) to thank individuals and organizations for their support of independent filmmakers. The awards were first voted on by a nominating committee. In 1986, "Findies" is renamed Film Independent Spirit Awards, … [Read more...]
Short Personal Review Before the Oscars 2014
I have very recently watched "Lee Daniel’s The Butler" and I have been impressed of another one not being nominated for this year’s Best Movie. I mean, I couldn’t bring myself to pass the critical first twenty minutes of "12 Years a Slave", so I do not really understand the British fuss, except that the lead actor is British. It received the Golden Globe for Drama and maybe I have been wrong in my haste. I want to say that this year, the only movie close to an Oscar is "The Wolf of Wall … [Read more...]
Oscars: Nominations 2014
I have waited with publishing the 86'th Academy Awards Nominations a week after the official announcement, because other movie or movie related ceremonies already happened, so they have their place on this blog, some of them in premiere. Actually, I wanted to wait one other week, because it's no hurry. People’s Choice Awards 2014
Because this year marks the 40th anniversary of the People's Choice Awards, I have decided to make an inaugural post with them, even if I don't really believe in "people's choice". The voting for this "awards" is online, so everybody got its chance to have a say! The People's Choice Awards is an American awards show, recognizing the people and the work of popular culture, in movies, television and music, with fifty eight categories. Again, I found the best format for the list here, on CNN, but … [Read more...]
Peter O’Toole Is Gone
I found with deep regret that Peter O'Toole left us as well. He was sick and bored, so there's no big fuss. The difference between him and Paul Walker is that Peter O'Toole will live forever in out hearts, and I'm also sure that it's not just a matter of tastes. Peter O'Toole was born in 1932. The date of his birth is not known, he claimed at a time that he may have been born in June, so we can consider him a Gemini, more than a Cancer. He became prominent as a Shakespearean actor, before his … [Read more...]
Nominees for the 85th Academy Awards
This is the list from the prestigious site of The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences, the official one, which is less glamorous as is all business. The nominees have still a lot of work to pimp themselves between them, because often, the Oscars were full of surprises. I present here the complete version, out of respect for all people involved. They deserve our consideration for their tireless efforts to fulfill everybody's expectations. Actor in a Leading Role Bradley … [Read more...]
