Technorati – What a Stunt!

July 2, 2014 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

Yesterday, checking my subscriptions, checking passwords and other security stuff, I wanted to access my Technorati account. I had been included in the prestigious directory since 2011. When accessing the site, the whole thing looked strange. I have noticed the new platform, which for their good working is wordpress 🙂

So, more and more pompous sites recognize the best technology in town when they see it. maybe they have a whole bunch of high paid executives to assemble such info, I wouldn’t know. I knew that Technorati was an Amazon company, meaning something controlled by the Bilderberg attendee, Jeff Bezos. They don’t need blogs, or better said, they don’t need anymore non-profits, or non-corporated organizations which express themselves by blogging their meanings. A real shame, indeed.

The "new" face of Technorati

They “changed” it from the roots!

The fight against real blogging was started by Google, with its acquired “free” blogspot platform named (to avoid using “baptized”) Blogger, and considered by all the ignoramus, the best, because it is owned by “the best”, by Google. A real paradox. You are advised by “specialists” who maybe don’t know how to maintain a site of their own, to “blog on Social Media”, because the reach is higher. The reach may be higher, but it’s short spanned.

Now, “the best” in advertising, recte Google, is challenged by Bezos’ minions. They started by transforming Technorati, the famous site who used to “measure” blogs, meaning by that, real blogs, with their branded domains on paid hosts (not sub-domains of blogspot.com or wordpress.com) in a new advertising platform. You are invited to join as a “publisher”, to participate now in the monetizing process of your internet exposure. They have created a network (it’s something like a month old, or so),and they now invite you to log in and join the network.

The once prestigious Technorati, had a top of blogs, consisted of a few millions.
As a site, you start to be considered from around 20,000,000 by Alexa, another Amazon measuring, and just writing that, I think I realized why they have “closed” the Technorati top. This one was only for blogs, since Alexa is a measuring tool for all internet sites. For detailed statistics you pay, and it’s not cheap if you don’t produce a few thousands dollars monthly. It’s not cheap to use any really useful productivity tool.

If you don’t buy the advertised product, you loose as a site. The traffic can be mastered and regulated, with all the false pretensions of “only content is king”. I have started to read on the subject of Technorati’s purpose’s changing at least three articles which copied one another. Another shame! They had the leitmotiv of “once upon a time Technorati”, which is very lame. They were pissed, but they didn’t want to attract any lightning from the internet rulers. Very interesting are the comments on the linked article as source. The articles starting to “wonder” the stunt, are no older than a week. The comments are a little bit older, and they are not praising.

You see, I have nothing against Bezos, or Amazon or Google, but it’s not kosher. I have been sad because they made the change without telling anyone, like there was a brilliant idea to snatch the adsense retribution by creating your own. It’s ok, somehow, only it is not fair. I also, have nothing against people being ignoramus, it’s not their fault, it is more comfortable, that’s it!
