The Believer is a 2001 Ryan Gosling drama movie, directed and written by Henry Bean. It is said and strongly believed that this is the role launching Gosling’s career at Hollywood. He was and is better than just a good looking guy amongst other thousands. He is very talented, no matter what lists were made after his apparition in The Notebook.

You already know that I do not reveal the plot of the movie I’m reviewing even if it’s already a classic. I’d like that my readers to be stimulated to watch a movie reviewed by me (especially when it is such an impressing one, like The Believer), or to become curious about the movie, anyway. So this film is about a boy, who enrolled in the American Nazi Party. With the time passing, you can notice that this boy, played by Ryan Gosling, named Daniel Balint in the movie, is quite prolific in expressing his hatred against Jews. Actually he is brilliant. Disturbed, but brilliant!
The American Nazi Party is a stain of a political movement, founded in 1959 by George Lincoln Rockwell, which was named first World Union of Free Enterprise National Socialists, and only in 1960 became what we have known as “The American Nazi Party”. Anyway, this guy Rockwell, has been assassinated in 1967 by a patsy named Patler, because Patler has been ejected from the party by Rockwell on grounds on trying to introduce Marxist doctrine in the party philosophy. What people mostly don’t know is that Marxism and Fascism has very close doctrines themselves and what distinguishes one from the other is just the race of the doctrines’ promoters.

Daniel Balint, joined a cell where he met “Curtis Zampf”, played by Billy Zane, “Lina Moebius” played by Theresa Russell, and “Carla Moebius”, none other than Joaquin Phoenix‘s sister and Cassey Affleck‘s wife, Summer Phoenix. At the beginning of the movie, a very cruel and totally gratuitous scene between Gosling as a bully and a Jewish observant young guy in the subway and after, almost made me to not watch the rest. I have been patient with that, knowing the praising Ryan Gosling received from the critics, so I waited and I have been extremely impressed, not only with his acting, but with the subject in general.

The Believer is a 2001 production directed by Henry Bean, and written by Henry Bean with Mark Jacobson. It has a 7.3 out of 10 imdb rating. It is utterly recommended, I think you become better people watching this. You will leave out a lot of preconceptions on race and other stupid classifications and you will find peace with your God whoever you think It is.
As down side, you’ll meet “Esme Cullen”, meaning Elizabeth Reaser who doesn’t shine here either. The character is “Miriam”, another observant Jewess.
Normal run time, 102 minutes.
