The Acid House is a 1998 Scottish three parts movie made by Paul McGuigan. I have been excited to watch another Irvine Welsh material, after Trainspotting one and Part Two, and of course Filth. I’m not repressing my disappointment. It was fine, all right, but it was too much.

The Acid House Plots?
I can’t figure the plots here, there are three pieces, three stories, all happening in sordid Scottish neighborhoods in unnamed Scottish cities. There’s violence, a lot of violence in all three, but especially in the first two.
“The Granton Star Cause” is with a guy called Boab who is cheated by his girlfriend, Evelyn, with his football teammate, Tambo. “Granton Star” is the team. Boab has also been sacked from his job and thrown out of the house by his pervert father.
“A Soft Touch” is with Rome’s Kevin McKidd, and can be funny, but he is cheated by his slutty wife with a very obnoxious neighbor. She’s ugly and the neighbor is dressed like a Gypsy. When he dance naked in front of the mirror, we notice his lack of a penis.
“The Acid House” is with Ewen Bremner who is taking too much LSD. His father is another violent pervert. His name is ridiculous, his friends are ridiculous. He is very talented but he’s everywhere now. He appeared even in Wonder Woman, for God sake. I wonder why?
There’s a lot of fantasy in these stories, but the movie doesn’t even touch the Trainspotting charm or Filth baroque grotesqueness. It’s just grotesque, with a filthy language. The bad boys can be found in the family, in the flat, in the team, at work or are quite close friends. In a word, in Scottland, your bully lives always in your proximity.

In the End
I watched first the movie, and shortly after that, I’ve read Trainspotting in Scottish in original. I read Filth first and after a while, I found out about the McAvoy movie. What can I say, Trainspotting was made by Danny Boyle, the Oscar-winning Danny Boyle. Filth has been directed by someone less famous. McGuigan found some fame with The Acid House, but unfortunately, I have not been entertained.
