The Golden Globes 2018 Awards – Winners and Nominees

Golden Globes 2018 - Images from the Red Carpet Parade

I used to think that the Golden Globes are less rated than the Oscars. I was wrong. I said somewhere, maybe on my Romanian blog, many years ago, that these awards are voted by intellectuals not by the trade members. The journalists who gave their vote for the Golden Globes 2018 Awards know where China, India or Bangladesh are situated on the map. I'm not so sure that 50% of the Academy members are that instructed. "Who cares?" can be their reaction, and indeed, it doesn't matter. I have great … [Read more...]

English Vinglish – An Exceptionally Entertaining Indian Drama/Comedy

Sridevi in English Vinglish 2012

English Vinglish is an amazing Indian movie (the second presented here) released in 2012. It has now a 7.9 imdb rate out of ten with over 25k votes, which made the movie virtually accountable for the famous imdb Top 250. When I was still navigating in the nineties, I made some Indian friends who told me a lot about Bollywood and the stars of that moment. So, I learned about Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, Darmeendra and others. I knew Raj Kapoor since I was a kid and I have … [Read more...]

Headhunters – An Insanely Entertaining Norwegian Thriller

Aksel Hennie in Headhunters

What a pleasant surprise I had while watching the Norwegian crime/thriller/drama Headhunters, "Hodejegerne" in original! It is a 2011 Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany co-production with meaning. Some of the critics say it lacks logic. I don't think so. Every second is planned to mean what it has to mean, and the surprises are plenty. One doesn't need a lot of explaining while watching Headhunters. I have been first intrigued, then pleased. The message is also fine, because unbelievably, it's … [Read more...]

A Dark Song – An Acclaimed Indie Movie with Black Magic

A Dark Song - Still

A Dark Song is a horror Irish drama released in 2016. It benefited by an incredibly good critic from both professionals and public, as it will receive from me as well. In this movie, the outcome is the thing that counts, even if the horror effects and the magic paraphernalia are the elements which apparently prevails. It is an indie, and it is very well prepared to show what you have to watch.   A Dark Song - Plot Sophie is a young mother who's kid has been abducted and killed in a … [Read more...]

Captain Fantastic Can Help You Live a Better Life

Captain Fanratstic - Viggo Mortensen, George MacKay, Annalise Basso, Samantha Isler, Shree Crooks, Nicholas Hamilton and Charlie Shotwell.jpg

I don't see another actor better than Viggo Mortensen as Captain Fantastic. This is almost a flawless educational movie. If you judge people on their political views, you can have a very biased feeling about this wonderful movie. This is because it's a little bit uncommon to find those beliefs in this bland world. You now believe in what you see in mass media, where you are tormented with imminent disaster, economical crisis, the 1%, terrorists, NSA, conspiracies and anti-Trump-ism. You are not … [Read more...]

If You Read One Article About Hands of Stone Read this One

Hands of Stone - Edgar Ramirez, Robert De Niro, Ruben Blades

Hands of Stone, released in 2016, is another exceptional movie I have recently watched. It is about the life of Roberto Duran, the Panamanian box champion, a living legend. Unfortunately I have noticed a sort of fury among top film critics regarding this biopic. They say that the screenplay is weak, or that the boxer is a scumbag in a lousy movie. I think that this is an almost unexpected comeback for once talented Robert De Niro, who didn't cease to surprise me in other recent movie as well, … [Read more...]
