IT 2016 – A Horror/Thriller with Cyberspace Pretensions

January 4, 2017 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

I.T. - Pierce Brosnan and James Frecheville

IT 2016 (I know, I have to spell it "I.T. made in 2016", to not be mistaken with 1990 It, a television miniseries) is a B thriller directed by John Moore and written mostly by the obscure Dan Kay, who seems specialized in the low rated niche of horrors. One of those is Pay the Ghost (2015), one of Nicolas Cage's $1 for the dozen movies. Additional dialogues were written by William Wisher Jr., who's most impressive contribution to date was something he added to 1984 The Terminator. It is an … [Read more...]

8 Casino Movies That Put Las Vegas Right Under Your Feet

October 11, 2016 By Daniel Mihai Popescu 1 Comment

21 - Jim Sturgess, Kate Bosworth - casino movies

As the title suggests, this is a list with my favorite casino movies. My choosing criteria is based on movies where the main characters gamble, even if the action doesn't always happen in Las Vegas. I hope you will like what I wrote and the movies as well. 21 - first of the casino movies on the list 21 is one of my favorite casino movies ever produced. It is about mathematics and calculus more than gambling per se. It is a movie about winning with your brain and beating the ruthless Las … [Read more...]

10 Celebrity Actors and Actresses You Didn’t Know Play Video Games

September 27, 2016 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

Jessica Alba

I have always liked to play video games, but as a lot of us, I can't find enough time for that. Not little was my surprise when I found out that even some busy actors and actresses play, or they are even addicted of playing. Here is a list with 10 of them, list with a little peculiarity. Can you spot it? Oh, and to not forget, I also like all these actors in a way or another, their acting, I mean :)   Michael Fassbender Is the First Actor in My List Who Likes to Play Video … [Read more...]

The Usual Suspects – One Top Cult Mystery Thriller

August 15, 2016 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

The Usual Suspects - (from left) Kevin Pollack, Stephen Baldwin, Benicio Del Toro, Gabriel Byrne, and Kevin Spacey.

One of my Top 10 movies of all times, The Usual Suspects is a cult mystery crime thriller released in 1995, written by Christopher McQuarrie, and directed by Bryan Singer. It doesn't have to make sense, actually, because it is too catchy on the whole. Everything started with and from a police lineup. McQuarrie made all up while working for a lawyer. The movie was shown first at Cannes Film Festival in 1995, out of the competition. After that it had a very reduced distribution in America, but … [Read more...]

Insurgent: The Divergent Trilogy – Part Two

August 13, 2016 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

Insurgent - Shailene Woodley with Theo james

Insurgent, the second installment made after Veronica Roth's "Divergent Trilogy", is not worse than the first, Divergent itself. Despite what other critics say, I liked it as well. I remember giving Divergent a 9 out of ten on imdb, which was a great rating. I wouldn't do the same with their rival franchises, "The Hunger Games Trilogy" or "The Maze Runner Pentalogy". With all the glam they have being very trendy post apocalyptic dystopia bloody "game shows", I like this one better. Based on what … [Read more...]

The Counselor – Great Stars in a Forgettable Movie

August 1, 2016 By Daniel Mihai Popescu 1 Comment

The Counselor - Poster Template

The Counselor is a 2013 movie made by Ridley Scott and written by no other than Cormac McCarthy, the 2007 Pulitzer winner for "The Road". The book was successfully dramatized in a post-apocalyptic movie directed by John Hillcoat and written by Joe Penhall, a good move perhaps. McCarthy's dialogue is too heavy without being relevant for the plot, and everything is much too cryptic. Sometimes is clumsy and bland, the action doesn't seem to be built logically. A lot of side stories without … [Read more...]
