Dhoom 3 is an Indian adventure flick which crowns a pretty successful series starring supercop Jai Dixit with his colleague Ali. With this post I officially inaugurate the new subcategory I named "Indian". This doesn't seem that the films reviewed here were all made in Bollywood because I sincerely don't think that Pan Nalin or Mira Nair made movies according to these rules. Dhoom 3 is a standard Bollywood production, as the whole series is, but this one is the best in everything. This movie's … [Read more...]
Killing Floor, a Debut Novel in a Very Successful Series
First Lee Child novel, Killing Floor, was unexpectedly gory, not to mention the one in a million coincidences that took place. Very catchy, captivating, you find in the first two pages that Jack Reacher is no academic, he is a tough mix. After finishing my lecture, I wasn't pushed to read the next one though, but I understand what may appeal to millions of his fans. Jack Reacher as a major series character The main character in this pretty huge novel series, is Jack Reacher, a … [Read more...]
The Equalizer, an Action-Thriller Masterpiece from 2014
In The Equalizer 2's wake, the sequel to be released on July 20, 2018, I felt compelled to review this action thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua, a genre's specialist. After movies like Training Day (2001), starring Denzel Washington as well, Olympus Has Fallen (2013), and Southpaw (2015), to name just a few, Fuqua is well-established as a very talented director. He is also a producer and an actor, so, the package is almost complete. Antoine Fuqua doesn't need to write his own scripts because … [Read more...]
The Fate of the Furious – A Brain-Numbing Action Flick 136′ Long
I don't think I have ever watched a super production more stupid and senseless than The Fate of the Furious. It is full of stars and it's so empty, so illogical and so futile, it's incoherent and it's witless. Folks! It's terrible; you know my allergies to junk like The Avengers (which I have labelled trash at least once), but believe me; The Avengers franchise is a masterpiece near this junk. [source of all pics: imdb.com] The Insane Plot We have here a female villain very … [Read more...]
Focus – A Movie with Con-fidence
Focus captured my attention especially because of its atypical approach. It is a mixture of romance, action, comedy, crime and drama, very entertainingly supported by the main characters. I have to confess that I am not a huge Will Smith fan, but in this movie I quite liked him. Margot Robbie attracted me after she recently hosted Saturday Night Live. I found her a little forced out in her role in The Wolf of Wall Street, much too ready for overnight stardom in Hollywood, but here, in Focus, she … [Read more...]
Jason Bourne 2016 – Answers Are Simple
Jason Bourne 2016 came as an interesting revelation after the previous movies in the franchise. It is better welded in structure with a much simpler plot than any of Robert Ludlum's novels. As I remember, I don't recall Ludlum's plots in the previous releases. They were an amalgam of 100% action and violence without an explanatory motivation. Now, with this one here, you don't need explanations. The characters are new, and the plot is simple. More than that, it is acted with no holes, and no … [Read more...]
