In Jack Reacher Never Go Back, Tom Cruise Is at His Best

December 30, 2018 By Daniel Mihai Popescu 2 Comments

Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher

After watching both cinematic sequels to Jack Reacher, I felt compelled to finally start reading the originals. Unfortunately, the first novel in the series was also too sick to make me continue immediately with the rest. Now I'm reading Jack Reacher 18 (Jack Reacher Never Go Back), the one this movie is based on. It is much better even if it seems to be something else than the movie. [source for all pics: imdb.com] Plot Jack Reacher Never Go Back starts perhaps with something which … [Read more...]

13 Talented Actors Without an Oscar

May 18, 2017 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

Joaquin Phoenix and Katherine Waterston in Inherent Vice (2014)

They are actors without an Oscar even if they deserved an award unlike other peers. There is no particular order to them. These actors and actresses were nominated at least for a Best Supporting role, some of them several times, but despite their talent, they didn't get it yet. Except one of them (Richard Burton), all the others are pretty recent, a 20-25 years span is a whole life for just a part of you.   James Woods [source for all pics: imdb.com] James Woods was born on 18 … [Read more...]

BAFTA Awards 2016 – A List of Nominees and Winners

Alejandro González Iñárritu, Tom Cruise, and Leonardo DiCaprio at BAFTA Awards

BAFTA Awards ceremony at the 69th edition this year (2016), was hosted by Stephen Fry on February 4th at the Royal Opera House in London. One of his comments stirred again the new trend of Politically Correctness around, and after he angrily replied on Twitter, he deleted his account. As a result, you won't be re-directed to that anymore, because the meta disappeared from his name: Had amazing time @ BAFTA's tonight x props to @stephenfry for hosting brilliantly & to all those diverse … [Read more...]

Who Hates Anne Hathaway?

April 24, 2013 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

The hate-able Anne Hathaway

Not quite a Flash! category post, the annoying subject of hating Anne Hathaway finally got on my nerves. This is not a post about her acting talents, or her talents on the whole, such one will be more appropriate on Actors & Actresses, this is my reaction, so I publish it here, and to change the view on the home page as well. On my Google News page, I have a dedicated entertainment section, where unfortunately, half of the news are about Anne Hathaway and her "hateability". [source] … [Read more...]

The Master

February 13, 2013 By Daniel Mihai Popescu 1 Comment

Joaquin Phoenix - The Master

There are five nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role and one of them is my favorite, Joaquin Phoenix for his performance in The Master. The film received two other Oscar nominations, also important, Best Supporting Actor and Actress for Hoffman and Amy Adams. It is strange and dark, it is filmed by a compatriot of mine, Mihai Mălaimare Jr., it is directed by Tom Cruise's friend, Paul Thomas Anderson of Magnolia fame. By the way, the premiere was at the Venice Film Festival in … [Read more...]

RIP Tony Scott

August 20, 2012 By Daniel Mihai Popescu 2 Comments

Tony Scott, the director of Top Gun, died Sunday at age 68, his publicist has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly, a site I used to be subscribed to. According to the Los Angeles Police Department’s harbor division, the British-born filmmaker jumped to his death from the Vincent Thomas bridge near Long Beach, California. According to officials, the Scott climbed a fence on the south side of the bridge and leapt off around 12:30 p.m. Police reportedly found a suicide note inside his black … [Read more...]
