Yesterday I was so busy, I couldn't find my head through the things to be done on time. But today is another day, and finally I'm under less stress. The only bad news are that Hugo Chávez died, the rest can wait. I remember two documentaries made on Chávez, by two different colored channels. One was somehow in the grand finance sponsored line, where Chávez was clearly presented as an antidemocratic Khmer Rouge dictator who obviously doesn't know left from right, and the other one was made by the … [Read more...]
Oscars – No Surprises
You already know the Awards, nothing new today. I just want to say it was not a surprise for Best Directing going to Ang Lee, artistically speaking it was as an arrangement for all that to happen. If Argo or Django Unchained were nominated, one of these two would have received the vote. A nice ceremony was what everybody expected and the live performances were up to our hopes. Considering the numbers and the procedures, the business was good as well, all investors had much more than they spent. … [Read more...]
Silver Linings Playbook
Every Oscar season has to have a movie which is non-political, even a comedy or a drama "unrelated with the current events". I'm only joking, considering that Kathryn Bigellow's movie The Hurt Locker won Best Picture almost unrelated with the artistic views of the moment. Anyway, this year, her Zero Dark Thirty is way better and the critics say it's not standing a chance. Silver Linings Playbook is nominated for Best Picture with great chances to win if it wouldn't be for Argo. I used to be … [Read more...]
Argo
I like Argo a lot. It took awards after awards, I was sure they have a reason, and after I saw the movie, I understood why. The movie is flawless and it is a good movie. It is "based on a true story", it wasn't the true story. I read that after presenting the movie at the Toronto Film Festival, the Canadian critics were upset for glorifying the CIA instead the Canadian Ambassador who helped so much. Discussions, nothing more. The Canadians had the credits for twenty years. Khomeini is dead, … [Read more...]
Oscar Buzz with Galifianakis
Galifianakis has a series of videos on the Funny or Die website titled Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis where he conducts interviews with popular celebrities between two potted ferns. The interviews are short and of course, unusual. He made two parts of Oscar Buzz, interviewing Jennifer Lawrence, Christoph Waltz, Naomi Watts, Amy Adams, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bradley Cooper, Sally Field, as Oscar nominees this year. The celebration, is the 85'th in the Academy History and will … [Read more...]
The Master
There are five nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role and one of them is my favorite, Joaquin Phoenix for his performance in The Master. The film received two other Oscar nominations, also important, Best Supporting Actor and Actress for Hoffman and Amy Adams. It is strange and dark, it is filmed by a compatriot of mine, Mihai Mălaimare Jr., it is directed by Tom Cruise's friend, Paul Thomas Anderson of Magnolia fame. By the way, the premiere was at the Venice Film Festival in … [Read more...]
