Great Expectations is a remarkable Charles Dickens' novel, and this Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity) adaptation is no less than that, only that it's just an inspiration, a pretext, if you like. The movie was released in 1998 and this is another review of mine from that extraordinary year. Soon, I'll publish a whole list of my already watched 1998 movies, with comments and recommendations, of course. This wonderful movie is actually borrowed from Dickens, Cuarón changed some names and more than that, … [Read more...]

The Jungle Book – Now on Steroids
The Jungle Book is a famous collection of stories written by Rudyard Kipling at the end of the 18th century, apparently inspired by his life in India. Roughly fifty years after the successful animated film, a new movie version of "The Jungle Book" is being released on April 15 in the UK and worldwide, and this article is brought to you by Cineworld Cinemas. Kipling, Disney and other Facts As most of you already know, Kipling was an English journalist, a short stories writer, a poet, and a … [Read more...]

Oscars 2016 Winners – Just the List and Some Comments
This post about Oscars 2016 Winners is more about the comments than the list itself, but it's all right for the records, my records as it goes... It's not news anymore, so please don't consider them as such. I have been impressed by some statistics I've read before the ceremony, and according to them, this year's Best Picture winner wasn't quite a surprise. The only weird thing was that it won only one more statuette, but it was well deserved since it was for original screenplay. What you … [Read more...]
Mad Max: Fury Road – A best Picture Nomination
Mad Max: Fury Road is a B movie with a lot of glue to the public. It made the imdb Top 250, it appeared on the nominations list for the Oscars this year. That is not a problem, if some committee wants to brainwash the population, it nominates such a movie for Best Picture, for Golden Globes, for whatever. It's insane, I know. This movie has a legacy, but the makers never dreamed to arrive so far. It is part of a franchise which was Mel Gibson's trampoline to a star status. I actually wanted … [Read more...]
BAFTA Awards 2016 – A List of Nominees and Winners
BAFTA Awards ceremony at the 69th edition this year (2016), was hosted by Stephen Fry on February 4th at the Royal Opera House in London. One of his comments stirred again the new trend of Politically Correctness around, and after he angrily replied on Twitter, he deleted his account. As a result, you won't be re-directed to that anymore, because the meta disappeared from his name: Had amazing time @ BAFTA's tonight x props to @stephenfry for hosting brilliantly & to all those diverse … [Read more...]
