Pineapple Express

James Franco, Seth Rogen - Pineapple Express

In 2008 I was in some place where I used to be so busy every day, that I couldn't watch too many movies at once. This one, Pineapple Express slipped from the bundle, mostly that I was a fan of nobody from the movie at the time, and thinking that this is the team who brought Superbad to be a "hit" (great words, too great) was not an advantage at all. So, I considered Superbad a bad joke. I like comedies, I always liked them. Anyway, I wasn't a fan of Seth Rogen either, and I profoundly disliked … [Read more...]

31 Comedies

Wil Ferrell in Semi-Pro

The following, is yet another list with comedies I liked and I couldn't consider "The Best". They can't be all "The Best". They start with the year of release, the order has nothing to do with my preferences. Of course, I like some of them more than others. All Pics are from www.imdb.com, a site whith an excess of Facebook on it. It's not simpler to connect through Facebook, it's just creepier.   Wag the Dog Relesed in 1997 imdb 7.1 97 min. Director: Barry … [Read more...]

Savages

April 5, 2013 By Daniel Mihai Popescu 1 Comment

Savages - Blake Lively, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Taylor Kitsch

Savages is an Oliver Stone 2012 movie release with a nice 6.5 imdb rating. I wish I read the novel, but now it's too late, I've already seen what's about and there are better things to do than that. It seems my computer problems I had in the last week affected a lot of things, if it's not another imdb glitch (one of the 40 Yiddish words everybody should know) not letting me log into my account. Environmentalist in his soul and philanthropist Ben (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and his buddy Chon … [Read more...]

John Pilger’s Chavez

Hugo Chavez

Yesterday I was so busy, I couldn't find my head through the things to be done on time. But today is another day, and finally I'm under less stress. The only bad news are that Hugo Chávez died, the rest can wait. I remember two documentaries made on Chávez, by two different colored channels. One was somehow in the grand finance sponsored line, where Chávez was clearly presented as an antidemocratic Khmer Rouge dictator who obviously doesn't know left from right, and the other one was made by the … [Read more...]

Oscars – No Surprises

February 28, 2013 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

Argo Producers: George Clooney, Grant Heslow and Ben Affleck

You already know the Awards, nothing new today. I just want to say it was not a surprise for Best Directing going to Ang Lee, artistically speaking it was as an arrangement for all that to happen. If Argo or Django Unchained were nominated, one of these two would have received the vote. A nice ceremony was what everybody expected and the live performances were up to our hopes. Considering the numbers and the procedures, the business was good as well, all investors had much more than they spent. … [Read more...]

Who Deserves to Win?

February 24, 2013 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

Quentin Tarantino in Django Unchained

With this essay post I have separated a new sub category on this blog, the Awards, which will be as you already guess, the Motion Pictures specialized talk. Everything I know related to Oscars, Globes, Emmy, SAG, and such, will be part from this new sub category. Tonight, the Oscars ceremony will take place and I feel compelled to say a few words about it. I don't feel there were many mistakes this year. Ben Affleck and Quentin Tarantino think they were robbed by Best Director nominations, … [Read more...]
