The Winners at Cannes 2013

May 27, 2013 By Daniel Mihai Popescu 1 Comment

Uma Thurman, Abdellatif Kechiche, Adele Exarchopoulos and Léa Seydoux - Palme d'or - La Vie d'Adèle (Blue is the warmest colour) © AFP

The following quotes are from Times. On my news stream the first impression came from Indian Daily News or something, due to Vidya Balan's presence in the jury. Spielberg made just that point at a press conference after the ceremony. He called Adèle ”a great love story that made all of us feel privileged to be a fly on the wall, to see this story of deep love and deep heartbreak evolve from the beginning.” The director didn’t put any constraints on the narrative. He let the scenes play in … [Read more...]

Eurovision, a Neglected Event

May 19, 2013 By Daniel Mihai Popescu 2 Comments

Margaret Berger from Norway

Why is Eurovision neglected by the spectators everywhere? It's still a mystery. Why Englishmen don't support anymore as much as they should to, their National Football Team? It's the same thing with Eurovision. Nobody cares. And songs like the whispered scream from Azerbaijan came second. Why? Because of Turkey not participating this year, their "brothers" were voted by the Turks all over Europe. They're quite a huge bunch, and as we could see, it's a caring one. They pay fortunes to Mobile … [Read more...]

Cannes Film Festival 2013

Cannes 2013 Grand Jury

Today, The Great Gatsby, Baz Luhrmann's adaptation based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, will open the sixty sixth film festival of Cannes. In an interview, Leonardo DiCaprio, who stars in the movie, said: "Every time I go to Cannes, it feels like I'm entering the helicopter scene in La Dolce Vita. It's an insane experience. The entire town is turned into a red carpet. Every hotel is a premiere. But at the same time, it is the mecca for the world to celebrate film-making and bold … [Read more...]

Who Hates Anne Hathaway?

April 24, 2013 By Daniel Mihai Popescu Leave a Comment

The hate-able Anne Hathaway

Not quite a Flash! category post, the annoying subject of hating Anne Hathaway finally got on my nerves. This is not a post about her acting talents, or her talents on the whole, such one will be more appropriate on Actors & Actresses, this is my reaction, so I publish it here, and to change the view on the home page as well. On my Google News page, I have a dedicated entertainment section, where unfortunately, half of the news are about Anne Hathaway and her "hateability". [source] … [Read more...]

Remember the Tragedies

From left, the Waco siege, the Oklahoma City bombing, memorial for the Columbine victims and Virginia Tech's Norris Hal

This is a short post about two sad cruel events that happened on an April 19. [source] "When a responsible agent is not easily discernible, that sense that something is still deliberate endures, and you are left wondering, "Well, who caused it, then?" You fill in the blanks. Conspiracy theories are a contemporary mythology, not unlike the Greek gods. Everything that happens has a reason, and the gods affect the course of human events through direct intervention. The … [Read more...]

Not Very Good (News)

Ozzy and Sharon in Los Angeles in October 2012. Photo by Photo by Gregg DeGuire

They're not news actually, except one, unfortunately. Sharon Osbourne left Ozzie and lives now at Beverly Hills Hotel. Looking after some fresh info about America's Got Talent, I found that not only she was replaced with two ladies, Heidi Klum and Mel B, making the jury similar with the one in Britain, but she also left her own house. These with the break-up are almost fresh. So fresh that papers like The Mirror just published that online just 40' ago. They were both once, toxic substances … [Read more...]
